Our bikes

Holly Tandem bicycle with church in background

Holly is a 1975 Pashley Tourmaster tandem, restored in brushed Land Rover Green enamel, and sympathetically electrified to give you a smooth, quiet and effortless ride.

Holly stands purposefully

She retains many of her original features but now sports additional braking, double-rimmed alloy wheels, and an enclosed, modern 8-gear hub. Holly's shiny new electric motor sits in her front wheel and is not much bigger than her original hub brake. Her battery is discreetly underslung and provides around 100 km (62 miles) of strong assistance.

Guinevere Guinevere is here

At only 30 years old, Guinevere is the youngest of our fleet.

She will be getting some serious attention over the next few weeks: a new enamel paint job (I'm thinking burgundy), North Road handlebars and leather saddles. I'm hoping to hand-stitch her some nice leather panniers and, of course, she will be discreetly electrified. Crafted from Reynolds 531 steel, Guinevere is a thoroughbred. She will be ready for adventure from the first of September. An ideal choice for the slightly taller couple or those planning a longer ride.

Violet Violet bicycle

Violet is an elegant Pashley Princess "Sovereign", with 5 gears and front and rear baskets, she is ready for adventures in town and country.

Our routes

Stratford-upon-Avon via the Greenway (40 km/25 miles) Staexnnells bridge

An easy ride with few hills - you will ride the quiet lanes through Pebworth to Long Marston, where you can pick up The Greenway - an ex-railway converted to a smooth and quiet bridlepath.

Stratford-upon-Avon is a beautiful market town, famous as the birthplace of William Shakespeare. The town is steeped in history and culture, with many historic buildings, landmarks and canals to explore.

Winchcombe via Broadway (54 km / 30 miles)
Sudeley Castle Winchcombe route map

Slightly more challenging - visit two beautiful Cotswold towns, ride alongside the Gloucester Steam Railway, and perhaps visit Sudeley Castle, for a very full day.

Circumnavigate Bredon Hill (65 km / 40 miles)

Quiet and picturesque road route, several excellent watering holes, a silk mill, nature reserve, and some of the prettiest "chocolate box" villages in the country.

About us

We are a small, home based micro business, run by a husband and wife team (Nick and Clare), who love e-bikes and the outdoors.

Nick has been rescuing and restoring e-bikes for a few years and after a rash purchase of a "bargain" Pashley Tandem (Holly), and a hilarious and mildly terrifying brake-less test ride, the "Best of Times" idea was born.

We hope to grow the business to a small fleet of classic British tandems and single bikes, sympathetically electrified, and available for joyful days out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you based?

We're a home based micro business, in the village of Middle Littleton, just outside Evesham in Worcestershire.

All rides currently start and finish at our home address.

We have free, all day off street parking if you need to leave a car with us, or we can collect you from, and return you to Honeybourne station for a £10 fee.

We are ideally located for exploring the Cotswolds, and the Vale of Evesham, and are within easy reach of Stratford upon Avon, Broadway, Winchcombe, Pershore, Alcester and the beautiful Bredon Hill.

What is a tandem?

It's a bicycle made for two! - The Captain at the front steers, the Stoker behind helps to pedal, and gets to enjoy the view (of course you can swap at any time).

Tandems are faster than single bikes you can cover a lot of ground, time and the world flies by!

They are not hard to ride - just a little unsettling at first - but within a mile or two it starts to feel quite natural.

We'll give you some useful tips on the day and make sure you're comfortable.

Can anyone ride one?

You need to be over 14, and able to ride a bike confidently to 'captain' one of our tandems.

You don't need to be a confident cyclist to be the Stoker. You just need to be able to sit upright, relax and pedal.

It's really helpful if all stokers relax and let their captains steer and balance the bike initially, you will quickly learn to work together naturally.

Is it hard work?

A tandem has significantly less drag and weight than two separate bicycles, and our electric assist quietly takes away the grind of hills and headwinds. You will have to pedal but it can be as effortless as you like.

Is it fun?

Absolutely, it's joyful, effortless and quiet. You can have normal conversations as you ride, no swerving or shouting required. There's a real sense of togetherness, you will hear the birds sing, smell the fresh air, and the sun will shine *.

* Birdsong and sunshine subject to availability.

Will I get a sore bum?

If possible we recommend swapping positions occasionally - it can help with a lot with saddle comfort.

We provide tools to adjust the saddles on the road. A small adjustment can make a big difference.

We recommend regular breaks: take photos, stop for a coffee, have a picnic, do some birdwatching, enjoy a cream tea, hunt mushrooms, skim stones, watch the cricket for 10 minutes. It's absolutely not a race.

A small container of talc is in the hamper. It can be a big help if clothes are rubbing.

Basically - you will probably survive – and may even be able to walk afterwards.

If it's a real concern, we have less beautiful but more comfortable saddles available. We can fit them in a jiffy - no judgement.

What should I bring on my ride?

Our basket contains many handy essentials, including water, sunscreen, first aid kit, emergency blankets, puncture repair items, sanitary items, sunglasses and much more. Feel free to bring your own, but if you don't we probably have you covered. It might go without saying but bring a (charged) phone, and light but warm clothes (it's quite a bit windier on the front).

What if we get tired/sore?

We offer a recovery service. If you get tired or have a mechanical issue, we can collect you and your bike(s). (Reasonable costs may apply)

What if we get lost?

Most of our routes aren't super critical. Roads converge, there may be options along the way. You're very unlikely to get properly lost and we are just a phone call away. The bikes are fitted with GPS trackers, so we know where you are (even if you don't)

Do you only have tandems?

No, we operate two electrified Pashley Princess single bikes too. If you just don't get on with a tandem or have an odd number in your party, we can accommodate.

Do I need my own helmet?

We offer helmets, gloves and high visibility vests for free with every hire - we strongly recommend you wear them. Of course you're welcome to bring your own safety equipment.

Can I leave the bike?

The bike will have a lock. We'd ask you to use it whenever you leave the bike unattended - ideally keep the bike within sight. All bikes are fitted with trackers for breakdown location and theft recovery.

What if the bike is damaged or stolen?

Unless it was plainly your fault (malicious damage, temper tantrum, stunt riding, bike abandoned, left unlocked), there will be no charge beyond our normal recovery fee.

What if I drop the bike, scratch the paint, rip a saddle, bend a brake lever?

Don't worry, those things would be considered normal wear and tear, and not chargeable.
